The Piano of the Immortal's...for well over 150 years, the name Steinway has stood for unparalleled quality and prestige. From Horowitz to Maroon 5, Steinway has become the piano of choice for artists of all backgrounds who demand the best musicality possible from a piano. This vintage O is no exception. Handmade with love from 1900 to 1901, this instrument was a revolutionary departure from the A, B, C, D platform Henry E. Steinway established with his son, William, in the 19th century. Competition from other famous New York manufacturers, especially Sohmer and Weber, forced Steinway engineers to conceive a piano under six feet in length without compromising tonal quality and keyboard responsiveness. After many years of experimentation, the model O emerged from the laboratories of C.F. Theodore Steinway's nephew Henry Ziegler in New York. This "miniature" instrument caught the public's eye and became a tremendous success globally. This was, for the first time, Steinway had conceived a grand instrument not for the concert hall or music salon, but for the average home of middle class Americans.
This Steinway O has a warm tone that prefers the middle register of the piano: sweet, lyrical, and delicate sustain. Balance comes to mind when playing this piano, and the action enables the adept player to perform anything from the great repertoire. The cabinet has been adapted in the restoration process with the spade legs from circa 1911.
Our model O has a new, North American triple A grade solid spruce soundboard, the action has been painstakingly restored using genuine Steinway parts, and restrung using Röslau wire and MAPES bass strings.
Please be our guest, and experience the joy of this magnificent piano! This Steinway is ready for another 100 years, greatly deserving its title as The Piano of the Immortals.
