Since 1989, Hailun Chen produced high-quality action parts for Renner, Germany in Ningbo, China. By 1995, he bought out a government, paid his workers a livable wage, and produced high-qulity pianos. Beginning in the mid 2000’s, Hailun Chen assembled a fine team of international technicians, including Stephen Paulello from Germany, Ema Shigeru from Japan, and Frank Emerson from the United States to assist in the design of performance-grade instruments. Hailun pianos feature Wurzen felt hammers from Renner, Germany, Röslau German-made strings, and the highest-quality Austrian spruce soundboards. Hailun pianos play exceptionally well, like performance-grade instruments, and are ranked equal to Kawai and Yamaha, yet boast significantly higher quality components.
Frank Emerson designed this Hailun HG-161. The instruments enchants the player and listener alike with a clear and sparkling treble, lyrical mid section, and a warm bass. This instruments has much color, which means a skilled pianist can produce a wide variance of timbres ranging from warm to bright across all registers. The action is a Renner style and virtually indistinguishable from a German Renner action in feel and response.
