Since 1989, Hailun Chen produced high-quality action parts for Renner, Germany in Ningbo, China. By 1995, he bought out a government, paid his workers a livable wage, and produced high-qulity pianos. Beginning in the mid 2000’s, Hailun Chen assembled a fine team of international technicians, including Stephen Paulello from Germany, Ema Shigeru from Japan, and Frank Emerson from the United States to assist in the design of performance-grade instruments. Hailun pianos feature Wurzen felt hammers from Renner, Germany, Röslau German-made strings, and the highest-quality Austrian spruce soundboards. Hailun pianos play exceptionally well, like performance-grade instruments, and are ranked equal to Kawai and Yamaha, yet boast significantly higher quality components.
Frank Emerson designed this Hailun H178. The instruments echants the player and listener alike with a clear and sparkling treble, lyrical mid section, and a warm bass. This instruments has much color, which means a skilled pianist can produce a wide variance of timbres ranging from warm to bright across all registers. The action is a Renner style and virtually indistinguishable from a German Renner action in feel and response.
